The McHenry County chapter of Simply A Mom held their first drive in October in 2005 and it was beyond a success. We had chosen to support the shelter Home of the Sparrow which is a facility to help families to recover from homelessness through teaching self reliance, independence, and self discipline. They have a transitional shelter for homeless women and their children in McHenry and Crystal Lake. After the morning pick up and organizing everything we had a mini van and a pick up truck filled to the top and out the sides of items for the shelter, more then I could have imagined...I was beyond touched. We had the opportunity to go directly to the shelter and drop off the items ourselves. When we left the manager of the shelter turned to me and gave me a hug and said how much they appreciated the donation...that hug meant more to me then imaginable. We are very much looking to the spring drive and can only be blessed again with the out pouring of donations. |
