Cornerstone Lakes had a fantastic turn out in Fall 2005. We had 23 children and 15 adults helping to collect and distribute all donated items to Lazarus House, Hope Haven, Crisis Pregnancy Center and Wayside Cross Mission. Our attempt at circulating some of our donations through Elgin Mental Health Center (where Hurricane Katrina victims were housed) were not needed at that time. So many others were giving. In return, the homeless shelters were getting less so it all works out in the end. Our help goes to where it is needed. Compared to last years rainy day, we had great weather. We are truly blessed by all of our Cornerstone Lakes families (and cub scouts) who all contribute in their own way to this charity. It is amazing to see the faces of the children when they get to work at giving back to those in need. They love it. Upon visiting the shelters with our donations, the children understand the real meaning of giving and they have real faces to put with the term homeless.
